met the sister for lunch at raffles place (she works there) on friday. havent been there for quite a while. stepping out of the mrt station, i was greeted by the usual buzz of the central business district, with the overwhelming and stately presence of concrete giants. without missing, of course, the smartly-decked out corporate people. some were in groups, perhaps giggling over some office trivia, taking a break from the demands of office life. yet without a doubt, they were all wearing the same purposeful mien and taking the same purposeful strides.

then at lunchtime, oh it was a sight to behold. i was reminded of my primary school days, where a ring of the bell preceded a mad swarm of little tyrants "infesting" every corner. at raffles place it was no different, for the same swarm, though obviously boasting a more matured and dignified air, filled the eateries and the streets.

i was in awe, no doubt. the pulsating rhythm of the CBD, it fills me, engulfs me. this is where the thick of the action lies. this is the heart of it all, the fertile ground that drives the stellar growths of singapore's famed financial sector. it's not that such a scene has never entered my lenses before, but that it happens at the point of my life where, after twelve years of formal education, i contemplate my destiny and pursuits in life. so visiting the area on fri registered an impact within me more significant than would be if i went in some other point of time in my life. this is where i wanna be.

and then it will come to a point where the big question will loom: government or private sector? to my sister, the answer is obvious, or perhaps, more certain than it would be for me. there lie many ills within the public sector that i have observed from the regular conversations between my other sister and the family. perhaps, my future does not lie with the govt after all. of course, it may be premature to consider these issues, for i have not even entered tertiary education. but then it is never unwise to start gathering info early.

bali climate talks finally closed its last chapter, with a, should i say, somewhat disappointing agreement? after days of childish bickering and self-centred demands, countries finally agreed on something, which isnt much actually. more talks will come, but i seriously doubt whether they will serve as wake-up calls enough. HELLO IT'S THE EARTH YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT RIGHT HERE. THE PLANET, YOU KNOW? IN CASE YOU HAVENT ALREADY REALISED, IT'S WHAT WE NEED TO SUSTAIN OURSELVES. NOT THE MORNING LAUNDRY FOR GOODNESS SAKE. SO STOP ALL THAT SENSELESS BICKERING OVER WHO SHOULD DO MORE OR LESS AND START SPARING A THOUGHT FOR GOOD-OL'-BUT-NEARLY-DYING EARTH. watching those world leaders bicker really does put mankind to shame. disapppointing, is all i can say. do we really need death to stare in our face before we realise our doom? it's already at the doorstep man.

sheesh.

anyway. yesterday was fun, at eliz's place! :) with val, weilin, jen and huis. ooh dinnertime was esp fulfilling, not just cos of the food (lol) but also cos of the quality time spent. (: pictures, as soon as i get from huis, will be here.
